Drama

Drama is a key aspect of performing arts at Pymble. Benefitting from the outstanding Gillian Moore Centre for Performing Arts, students regularly have the opportunity to feature in major productions for the Pymble Drama Company and Pymble Drama Ensemble. These theatrical opportunities develop and enhance the skills of our students.

Each year, the Drama department stages four major productions, covering all year groups. The plays performed include a range of styles, including some of the greatest and most-loved works: Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet and Macbeth, Our Town and The Crucible, as well as popular adaptations of Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Snow Queen and Wind in the Willows.

An important part of the College’s curriculum, Drama is an elective subject from Year 9 through to Year 12, including the Higher School Certificate.

Our students are encouraged to develop first-hand knowledge and skills in theatre design, lighting, sound, directing and stage-managing productions, and front-of-house roles. Students are provided with opportunities to produce theatrical pieces and to attend a variety of professional theatre productions and workshops.

The collaborative nature of Drama engages students in a creative process of sharing, developing and expressing emotions and ideas. Students are consistently challenged to maximise their individual abilities through imaginative, dramatic experiences created in cooperation with others.

An incredible number of Pymble’s past Drama students are now either working in the industry or studying theatre at university or Drama schools.
