On Wednesday 24 March the 2014 Pymble Tildesley Tennis Team woke up early with high spirits. We were ready to play, support and be linesgirls for the matches.
All the girls travelled out to Pennant Hills, excited for the first singles matches to commence. Although the weather was overcast and there was light rain the matches still continued and the team embraced the Pymble spirit with face paint, hair spray and loud cheers.
Pymble had three singles girls secure a spot in the fifth round of Tildesley singles, well done to Alexandra Taylor (Year 11), Alana Bourgeois (Year 10) and Gabriella Da Silva Fick (Year 8); who all played exceptionally well and stayed strong throughout their matches.
The next day was doubles day, however unfortunately the constant rain had flooded the courts and the doubles matches were postponed until Friday. With Friday being the final day of competition, all doubles matches were played in the morning along with the fifth round of singles. A great display of Pymble talent and spirit was seen across all courts. Three Pymble doubles pairs made it into the quarter finals; their serving aces and smashing volleys were a sight to be seen, winning them match after match. Congratulations to Keeley-Ann Meijer and Ruby Lawler, Lynelle Rohe and Helen Zhang, and Milica Stanojlovic and Lily van Lent.
Overall, Pymble placed third, the result of an outstanding performance from the whole team. Later on Friday night, the team ended Tildesley with a celebration dinner at Killara Golf Course to recognise the hard work and effort of everyone leading up to the tournament. Of course, the Pymble team could not have done so well without the Tildesley coaches, in particular Mrs Webster, Kristine Radford-Kunce and Sean White, and our encouraging and dedicated Tennis Captain, Helen Zhang.
The 2014 Tildesley season has been fantastic and we will be back again next year in 2015!
