Book Week 2015
Thursday 20 August, 2015
This week we welcomed guest speakers Carol Knight (a descendent of Jane Austen) and Sonia Morgan from the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation to the College in acknowledgement of Book Week.
The theme for the 2015 Book Week, ‘Books Light up our World’, is being celebrated at schools and libraries across Australia with activities and events showcasing Australian authors and illustrators. Marking the 70th anniversary of the Children’s Book Council of Australia Pymble students and staff participated in a number of fun Book Week activities throughout the week including a parade of students and staff in themed Book Week costumes on Wednesday. Funds raised from Pymble Book Week activities support the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation. Preparatory School and Junior School students will celebrate Book Week next week.
Literacy, the ability to read and write, allows for effective communication, an essential tool in the global society we live in. At Pymble, we understand the importance of fostering a love of reading and an interest in books and the benefits experienced by literacy-proficient students across all disciplines of study and in their everyday life beyond the classroom.
