Ag plot 5-11-19

Year 4 students visited our agricultural plot recently as part of their scientific investigation into the processes involved in producing food, clothing and shelter. We learnt that a small-scale farm can have even bigger challenges than a larger scale specialised farm. The students have considered traditional methods, including Indigenous farming practices that showed a great respect for the land.

As our planet’s population is expected to increase by another three billion people in the next 30 years, we need to consider how our limited land can ethically meet the increasing demands placed on it. This leads to examinations of more automated methods such as using drones, automated harvesting and closed loop practices. The students will also be investigating and designing food production systems that include vertical gardens, aquaponics and coded watering systems.
