The HOPE Regatta will be held on Sunday 14 June 2015 at the Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC) at Penrith.
Pymble Rowing shares the facilities at Leichhardt Rowing Club (www.lrc.com.au), Glover Street, Lilyfield, near the Iron Cove Bridge. All training will be held at this location. Travel time from Pymble to the Rowing Club is 25 to 30 minutes in the early morning.
We will be holding a two hour Orientation Morning on Sunday 10 May at the Leichhardt Rowing Club to familiarise you with the set-up, introduce you to the boatshed, your coach, cox and crew, and answer questions.
Generally crews train twice a week for four weeks leading up to the Regatta on Sunday 14 June. Crew training usually involves one mid-week early morning session (e.g. 6.00am) and one weekend session.
Some crews may choose to train mid-morning depending on availability of coaches and coxes. Crews will row in teams of eight.
Crews will be assigned training periods, If necessary, training periods can be switched; this needs to be organised by each boat and amongst different crews. Let us know if you switch your training times with another crew.
No, we will teach you – that’s half the fun! A team of accomplished coaches will oversee all training sessions. Most first time HOPE participants have never rowed before.
One of the few entry requirements is swimming competency. You need to be confident in the water. In the unlikely event of a boat capsizing you need to be able to stay afloat in the water.
Yes, we will allocate you to a suitable crew, ideally with parents who have similar rowing experience or with your friends you have identified when you register. You are able to nominate your preference for mixed or single sex crew and we will do our best to accommodate your preference. However if you have a crew, you need have chosen a captain before you register. Although you register as an individual your crew will be identified by its captain.
Of course! If you record each other’s names on our registration forms we will happily team you up in the one crew. Better still, if you have eight people keen to row together, enter as a crew and reserve your eight. Note: if you are registering as a team you need to have a captain identified before registration.
Of course, we welcome anyone who would like to enter. We are raising funds for the College so anyone willing to participate is warmly welcomed.
No, this is our turn! However ex-students of all ages are actively encouraged to participate. In 2010 an ex-student crew, including some novices, won the event!
To purchase your seat in an eight, the cost is $380.00 per person. This includes all training, coaching and coxes, Regatta day racing and associated activities, and a HOPE Regatta T-shirt. You may even end up with a trophy!
The money raised from the HOPE Regatta will be directed to the new sport, gym and swimming centre (Centenary Precinct).
The more the merrier to cheer you on as you race on Regatta day! There will be food and drinks available, the Pymble Band playing, crews dressing up, and lots of fun and social activities. A great family day!
Crews can be all male, all female or mixed – there will be race categories to suit everyone. Each crew will enter three races, each 500 metres in length. We anticipate that 20+ crews will enter the 2015 HOPE Regatta.
