R U OK? Onesie Day

Thursday 10 September, 2015

On Tuesday 8 September Wylie House Co-Captains led an initiative to raise awareness of R U OK?, a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2009, which encourages and equips people to regularly ask “are you ok”.

Encouraging students and staff to wear a onesie (one-piece pyjamas) in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record was a novel way to raise awareness of an extremely serious problem. Suicide is the biggest killer of young Australians and accounts for the deaths of more young people than car accidents. The prevalence of depression, anxiety and mental health in youth is alarmingly high and such events as Pymble’s onesies Guinness World Record attempt provides an ideal platform to raise awareness of the importance of connecting with friends and family to ask if they are okay.
