Olympian Christian Sprenger mentors Pymble swim squads

It’s not everyday that an Olympian offers to share secrets to sporting success, so when Olympic silver medallist and former world breaststroke champion Christian Sprenger spent time with Pymble swimmers recently he made quite a splash.

Christian spent two hours in a training session with the White Squad ahead of the Sydney Metro North East Championships the following weekend. The session focused on hydrodynamics, including using correct body position, core strength, angles of limbs and timing of strokes to help your body travel faster through water.

He also advised the girls to “try to stick to normal routines” ahead of a competition. “Don’t go changing things drastically, just because you are racing.”

The Navy and Scarlett Squads also enjoyed engaging with Christian, who was clearly impressed by the dedication of our young swimmers, and the remarkable new pool in the Braith Williams Aquatic and Fitness Centre in the newly-opened Centenary Sports Precinct.

“Wow! They have thought of everything. Makes me want to come out of retirement and race in it!”
