More Preparatory School places at Pymble

Friday 9 March, 2018

On the first day of school this year, an additional 20 bright young faces were welcomed to Pymble Ladies’ College.

As of Term 1 2018, the College increased its Kindergarten intake in the Preparatory School from three to four classes. This is a first in the history of Pymble and a timely move following the NSW Government’s prediction that independent schools will accommodate enrolments growth of more than 35 per cent (an additional 70,000 students) between 2016 and 2031.

“The addition of a fourth Kindergarten class opens up more placements for more local girls in those all-important early years and is a testament to the College’s reputation for educational excellence for girls of all ages, interests and abilities,” said Principal Mrs Vicki Waters.

“We are delighted to be able to welcome more families who believe that the personalised education and the focus on wellbeing that we offer at Pymble is the best start in life for their daughters,” Mrs Waters said.

To accommodate the fourth Kindergarten class in 2018 and the subsequent increase to four classes in Years 1 and 2 in 2019 and 2020 respectively, the College undertook a building project to extend the Preparatory School.

“When faced with the option of accommodating the extra classes in demountables or building three additional rooms to mirror the existing learning spaces, there really was no choice,” said Mrs Waters.

“We were fortunate to have the space to extend out or up from the existing Preparatory buildings so the integrity of the precinct was maintained.

“We timed the bulk of the build to take place during the summer holiday break and the entire project is on track for completion in Term 2 this year,” Mrs Waters said.

The fourth Kindergarten classroom was completed by Week 6 of Term 1, when students swapped their temporary classroom for their newly-built permanent learning space.

The construction of the additional Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms continue to proceed according to schedule.
