Curricular Dance

Curricular Dance focuses on the study of dance as an art form, rather than learning just the technical qualities required to execute dance.

At Pymble, the study of Curricular Dance has three focus areas. Performance looks at dance technique, safe dance practice and performance quality. In Composition, students explore the process of choreographing a dance work. Whilst the third focus area, Appreciation, provides girls with the opportunity to look at dance history and analysis of dance works.

Each year, all Elective Dance students perform at the Curricular Dance and Drama Showcase in the College’s outstanding Gillian Moore Centre of Performing Arts (GMCPA). The showcase provides all Elective Dance students the opportunity to display what they have learnt during the year on a professional stage.

Since the HSC Dance course started five years ago, Pymble has received 18 Nominations for Callback, a showcase of exemplary dance works produced by students for their practical examinations. Our Elective Dance students have also been selected for Fast & Fresh, and regularly attend a variety of Dance Productions and workshops each year.
